Year 7 at the Pioneer Centre

On Wednesday 11 September, Year 7 students and their tutors headed to the Pioneer Centre for three days of bonding and outdoor pursuits. Isabelle, Daisy and Elsie share some of their highlights from the trip…

Isabelle

“We went to the Pioneer Centre on Wednesday and got back on Friday. I was nervous to leave my family, but as soon as I saw my friends I knew it was going to be so much fun. Our bus driver was very reassuring – he honestly deserves such a big thank you! As soon as we got there, we got straight into activities. They were fun and challenging, and I’m so happy with how I got pushed out of my comfort zone. My top three activities were laser tag, rock climbing and caving.  The Pioneer Centre staff were kind and helpful. I was in a room with two girls from a different form, who I’d never really talked to, and they were so nice. The food was good, especially the hash browns!”

Daisy

“We had a very warm welcome from the instructors and found out a lot about them because they were from all around the world. The first activity I did was climbing. We climbed super high and it was quite tricky, but it was so much fun. Then we did caving, which was super scary because it was so small. The last activity we did on that day was an inflatable course. We did dodgeball and a race which was super-duper fun! My favourite activities were abseiling and the zip wires. I was scared at first, but I’m so glad I didn’t quit.”

Elsie

“The Pioneer Centre trip was the most memorable trip I have ever had, because of the people I was with and the journeys and challenges I came across. I was a bit anxious when I came to leave my home and get on the coach because I didn’t know what was coming. When we finally arrived we were all so excited for our first activity! Mine was rock climbing, which I was a bit nervous about because I’m not a fan of heights. When I started, my legs were shaking, but my team and the staff were all so encouraging. The trip turned out to be an amazing and wonderful experience. My advice to future Year 7s would be to try everything – you won’t regret it!”
