On Tuesday, 10 December, Year 3 and 4 came together for a spectacular conclusion to their 4-D Curriculum topic: Pole to Pole. Over the course of our lessons, the classes have explored the culture, society, beliefs, and history of the fascinating peoples of the Amazon region. To mark the end of this exciting learning journey, Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Norris challenged the pupils to work in groups to create their own unique tribe, drawing inspiration from the indigenous groups they had studied, such as the Kayope and Panara tribes.
Each group was tasked with developing the identity of their tribe, which included designing traditional costumes and headdresses, as well as creating jewellery and face and body paint for special celebrations. The pupils worked together to imagine how their tribe might live and thrive in the Amazon rainforest, focusing on cultural and environmental elements.
The classes then went on to showcase their creativity through tribal dances, incorporating the rainmakers they had crafted earlier in the term. The atmosphere was filled with energy and excitement as the pupils shared their performances.
In the afternoon, still proudly wearing their vibrant costumes and headdresses, the classes headed to Forest School. There, they cooked their own food, preparing for a celebratory banquet to share with one another. This was the perfect way to reflect on their hard work and achievements throughout the topic.
Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Norris were truly impressed by the students’ creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm. The day was a resounding success, leaving everyone with unforgettable memories of their immersive exploration of the Amazon tribes.
