We were very fortunate to have a visit to The Kingsley School by Lord Ed Vaizey, as part of our series of Round Square Talks. As a current member of the House of Lords, Lord Vaizey is a Conservative peer who was a fantastic speaker on the IDEALS of Leadership and Democracy. He spoke to the students about the role of government, the House of Lords, what MPs are and how they help people solve their problems. Lord Vaizey also worked in David Cameron’s government between 2010 and 2016 as, in his words, “the minister for everything fun!”. As Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries, he provided entertaining anecdotes about how he helped convince Hollywood Studios to film productions such as Star Wars, Harry Potter and Games of Thrones here in the UK. Lord Vaizey also worked to support the growth of the video game industry, which is an important part of the local economy here in Leamington Spa. Pupils were very interested to learn about how he had worked and supported companies that their own parents work for. We extend our thanks to Lord Vaizey for making the effort to come to The Kingsley School; it was very much enjoyed by the pupils that came along.
