Clapham Terrace Pupils Explore Science at Kingsley

It was a pleasure to welcome Year 6 pupils from Clapham Terrace Primary School to Kingsley for an interactive morning of science lessons.

In the biology lab with Dr Robertson, the pupils learned how to use a microscope, starting by examining the fibres in newspaper. Next, they looked at pondweed under the microscope and discovered the different types of cells. Most excitingly, they were able to observe the chloroplasts within the cells, gaining a deeper understanding of plant biology.

In the physics lab with Mrs Bacon, the pupils had fun building their own electrical circuits. They designed and created switches, helping them to grasp the concept of a complete circuit and the importance of electricity flow. The session culminated with a creative challenge: using their circuits to send Morse code messages. This hands-on activity not only reinforced their understanding of electrical circuits, but gave them an insight into the fascinating history of communication!

Clapham Terrace is a Community Primary School based in Royal Leamington Spa. Pupils and staff have joined the Kingsley community for a number of events in recent years, including several sporting events. In April 2024, The English Speaking Union hosted an oracy event at Kingsley, which saw Year 5 girls and boys from Clapham Terrace, Shrubland Street Community Primary School, Kingsway Community Primary School and Kingsley Prep come together to develop and showcase their public speaking skills. Along with three other schools, Clapham Terrace has recently joined the Warwick Schools Foundation Multi-academy Trust. We look forward to many more exciting collaborations in the future!
