Entrance Assessments for Year 7

At The Kingsley School, it is part of our ‘Kingsley Way’ to get to know and understand all of our students. This is important to us from the very first stage of the admissions process. For entry into Year 7, we invite your child to an Entrance Assessment Day.

The day begins with ‘warm-up games’ in the Hall to alleviate any apprehension and nerves. Following this, the children will be divided into groups and taken to the classrooms for their entrance exams. These consist of an English comprehension paper, a Maths paper covering material that should have been learnt up to the beginning of Year 6, and a Verbal Reasoning paper. These exams are invigilated by our teachers in small classes.

After the exams, a hot lunch will be provided in the Dining Hall. Following lunch, the children will participate in a carousel of problem-solving and team-building activities, concluding with an interview with a senior member of staff. This allows us to see the children in a more relaxed environment, providing a more enjoyable experience for your child.

Key dates for Year 7  2025 entry:

  • Application Deadline: Sunday 22 September, midnight*
  • Scholarship Days: Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 October
  • Entrance Exam: Saturday 5 October

Senior School other year groups (age 11 to 16 years)
Older pupils may apply for entry at any time in the school year if places are available. They’ll be required to sit a written examination appropriate to their age which normally includes a paper in a modern foreign language, an interview with a senior member of staff and a reference from the current school.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form (Ages 17 to 18 years)
Entrance to the Sixth Form is conditional on GCSE results, a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9 – 4 with a grade 6 in those subjects to be studied. A satisfactory reference from your current Head of Year 11 and evidence of predicted GCSE results.
