Last week, a talented cast of Senior School and Sixth Form students took to the stage of the Bridge House Theatre to deliver an unforgettable production of ‘Sister Act’.
Brimming with toe-tapping tunes, dazzling choreography and heartfelt performances, the musical transported the audience to the world of Deloris Van Cartier, a nightclub singer who becomes an unlikely star in a convent choir. After witnessing a murder, Deloris is placed in protective custody at a convent – a most unusual hiding place! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself clashing with the stern Mother Superior and struggling to fit into the strict routines of convent life. However, with her unique flair and love of disco music, Deloris transforms the convent’s choir, injecting new energy and life into the community – until her cover is blown and the gang is on her tail.
With a vibrant cast, led by Tilly C (as Deloris) and Rebecca S (as Mother Superior), the musical featured show-stopping numbers including ‘Take Me to Heaven’, ‘Fabulous, Baby!’ and ‘Raise Your Voice’. Under the expert guidance of Musical Director Dan Chambers, the choir and live band brought down the house with their harmonies, while comedic performances from Ruby K (as Curtis, Deloris’ scheming boyfriend) and the ensemble added to the charm of the production.
The energy and excitement in the theatre were palpable as the whole cast brought the electrifying show to life, with all three performances earning standing ovations from the packed audiences. The powerful vocals, infectious disco beats and comedic moments kept the audience laughing, singing along and fully immersed in the story.
After the final curtain call, Director and Producer Emma Smith commented:
“The cast and crew have worked incredibly hard over many weeks, and their dedication has truly paid off. Every performance was filled with joy and energy. Deloris’ journey from diva to sisterhood was so well portrayed by Tilly, and the entire cast embraced the spirit of Sister Act wholeheartedly. A huge thank you to everyone behind the scenes, from the band to the backstage crew, for helping to make the show so special. It was a true team effort, and I couldn’t be prouder of what our students have accomplished – BRAVO!”
