World Book Day Celebrations: Creative Costumes and Literary Fun

On Thursday 6 March, Kingsley embraced the joy of reading with its annual World Book Day celebrations – a day filled with creativity, imagination and plenty of literary inspiration!

This year’s theme, ‘Read Your Way’, encouraged students of all ages to reflect on the diverse ways we connect with books – whether through genre preferences, characters, mood or setting – and to celebrate the magic of storytelling.

Students and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters or created outfits inspired by literary genres. They were highly creative with their costumes: some chose to represent the fantasy genre, donning wizard hats and cloaks, while others celebrated romantic fiction with bold reds and pinks. Participants were also invited to bring along the novel or text that inspired their costume, sharing their literary choices with others and sparking some interesting conversations.

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) became a hub of activity during break and lunch, offering various book-themed activities. There was also a special World Book Day-inspired menu in the dining room! Form time activities included interactive reading games and book-themed poster making. Staff were encouraged to make their own posters which they displayed in their classrooms and on office doors.

Head of English Ms Forde reflected on the day, saying: “This year’s World Book Day has been a tremendous success, bringing together the entire school community through a universal love of books. The event highlighted the importance of reading as a personal and dynamic experience – one that can be shaped by our moods, our interests and the stories we cherish. I’m extremely proud of all our students and staff for embracing the day, and I hope the inspiration sparked by this celebration of literature continues to fuel their passion for reading throughout the year.”
