At the end of January, 40 Year 11 students received the results of their IGCSE Mathematics examinations, which they sat in November. The students have made us incredibly proud, achieving one of the top performances since the introduction of numerical grading in 2017. With a quarter of the results graded 9 or 8, the success reflects their hard work and determination, as well as their teachers’ commitment to preparing them to excel. The opportunity to sit the IGCSE exam early provides invaluable experience, allowing students to gain confidence and better prepare for the many exams that lie ahead in the summer. Many of these students are now focusing on the FSMQ Additional Mathematics course, which offers a deeper dive into A-level Mathematics content.
The celebrations continued when a group of Year 9 to 11 students participated in the prestigious UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC). Known for its demanding problem-solving puzzles, Kingsley has a long history of success in the IMC, and our students once again rose to the occasion. As the competition pushes the boundaries of mathematical thinking, our young mathematicians relished the opportunity to test and stretch their skills. The department is now preparing students for the Year 7 and 8 competition, which will take place on 1 May.
Four Year 10 students are also hard at work preparing for Maths Feast, a team-based competition due to take place in March. This annual event sees students from different schools competing against one another, testing their logical thinking and team working skills. We wish our students the best of luck as they gear up for this exciting competition.
Looking ahead, one of the department’s most eagerly awaited events is Pi Day on 14 March. This annual celebration of all things mathematical promises to be another memorable occasion, filled with digit recitals, dingbats and, of course, circular treats. This year’s event is sure to be e-pi-c and we can’t wait to celebrate with our students!
Kingsley’s Mathematics Department continues to inspire and challenge students at all levels, and we are proud to see them thriving in both internal and external competitions. We look forward to many more achievements and celebrations throughout the year!
