We were delighted to welcome the team from 8billionideas back to Kingsley this week for a number of exciting workshops!
On Monday, Prep pupils travelled back in time to the Stone Age, when early humans had to rely on their ingenuity and resourcefulness to survive without the conveniences of modern technology. Life was hard and they faced challenges such as hunting for food, building shelter and protecting themselves from wild animals. The pupils were asked to imagine the types of jobs that existed all those years ago, and how they may have helped overcome these challenges. After a lively brainstorming session, they set to work creating job adverts, drawing pictures of people performing their Stone Age jobs with imaginative descriptions to bring their ideas to life. They had fun sharing and developing their ideas with the 8billionideas team.
On Tuesday, Year 7 students enjoyed a brilliant day of creativity and innovation in a workshop entitled ‘Across the Board’. Throughout the day, they explored product design, marketing and prototyping, using recyclable materials to bring their unique board game ideas to life. From brainstorming game concepts and building prototypes to refining their designs and testing them with their peers, they developed key skills in team working, problem solving and branding. The day culminated in a vibrant showcase, with students confidently presenting their games.
On the same day, Year 8 students participated in an empowering ‘Work Smart’ programme, designed to enhance their productivity, mindfulness and self-confidence. The day featured engaging sessions on self-esteem, goal-setting, prioritisation and mindfulness techniques. Highlights included creating personal vision boards and participating in interactive activities such as the ‘Priorities Game’, encouraging creativity and self-reflection. Students were encouraged to express their individuality while learning practical strategies for managing tasks and time. The experience provided students with tools to thrive both academically and personally.
Kingsley’s partnership with 8billionideas was established in September 2023 and has seen students of all ages engaging in future-focused workshops designed to inspire and develop essential life skills. With a mission to give young people the skills and belief to change the world, 8billionideas is helping to shape the next generation of changemakers. We’re excited to see where the partnership takes our students as they continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead.
