Co-curricular

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

Be it in Music, Sport, Drama, outdoor pursuits, or academic enrichment – we have a fine tradition of nurturing the diverse talents of our student community beyond the core curriculum.

Our exciting and varied Enrichment Programme offers something for everyone, from Science and Engineering clubs to art, crafts, fitness and mindfulness activities. Timetabled enrichment sessions take place each week, and from September 2024 students in Year 9 and above will enjoy Friday Afternoon Activities with the Warwick Schools Foundation.

A new enrichment timetable is released for each year group at the start of term and students are asked to sign up to their chosen activities. As they go through the school, they will take part in many different activities, developing their skills and knowledge outside of the curriculum, building their resilience and confidence as they try new things, and teaching them the importance of having balance and making time for enjoyable activities in their lives.

TRIPS & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

Each year, we offer a wide variety of local and international trips, from London’s West End to the fjords of Norway. For those seeking adventure, the World Challenge and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award schemes offer fun and character development in equal measure.

ROUND SQUARE

Our Round Square membership offers further opportunities for travel; in recent years a select number of students have taken part in the annual Round Square International Conference, taking place in countries like Kenya and Colombia.

Students in different year groups also have tailored opportunities to take part in student exchanges, offering even greater opportunity for cross-cultural collaboration with other Round Square Schools.

We offer a fantastic high-profile speakers programme that centre on the six Round Square IDEALS, and encourage students to take part in international competitions and service projects.

SPORT

Sport is a vital part of life at Kingsley; we have excellent sporting facilities and dedicated, specialist staff. Students are encouraged to do their best and to take full advantage of the wide range of sports and activities on offer. We are very proud of our young athletes, who compete at all levels, including in national competitions.

We believe that taking part fosters a healthy competitiveness but also co-operation, as students support their houses or teams in the fixtures and events that take place throughout the year.

Kingsley has extensive, well-maintained sports fields comprising a modern pavilion, four hockey pitches, five netball courts, six tennis courts and five rounders pitches. There is provision for a range of athletics including shot, javelin and discus.

PERFORMING ARTS

Kingsley’s Performing Arts Department is lively and flourishing. In addition to the curriculum lessons, we have an excellent team of peripatetic staff who offer a range of instrumental, theory, dance and speech, and drama lessons.

The Performing Arts Department invites all pupils to participate in the various co–curricular activities and lessons that it provides. Currently over a third of all pupils across the school engage in either instrumental or speech and drama lessons.

Children in the Early Years up to Key Stage 1 are introduced to the Performing Arts through Music and Dance/Drama. This is further developed at Key Stage 2 where all students have Music and Drama lessons. Curriculum Drama and Music is taught to all students at Key Stage 3 with GCSE options at Key Stage 4 and at A-level in Key Stage 5.

Regular performing events include concerts, productions, LAMDA soirees, revues and GCSE and A-level performance evenings. Working in an ensemble is an effective way of learning and developing your child’s skills. As with productions and concerts a disciplined, positive attitude is essential and your child will be expected to attend all rehearsals regularly.

We also offer regular examinations for pupils taking instrumental or speech and drama lessons. The examination boards are:
Music – Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity College London
Drama and musical theatre – London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA)

MUSIC

Every student in Year 7 learns their choice of flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone from scratch as part of our Foundation-wide instrumental scheme. Instruments are provided free of charge for the year, and tuition is offered in small groups.

Students are encouraged to make use of their musical skills in and out of the classroom. There are a huge variety of musical ensembles and choirs for students to join, both at Kingsley and across the wider Foundation. At Kingsley, these include auditioned and non-auditioned choirs, String Orchestra, Swing Band, and a variety of smaller groups, including Recorder Consort and Flute Choir.

All ensembles perform regularly, while some even tour and enter national competitions.
